Historic Mosaic Restoration

Yellow Cottage Mosaics’ Christina Yaconelli employed by the city of Campbell to restore mosaic mural originally saved from San Tomas School and reinstalled at Jack Fischer Park.

When Jack Fischer Park was built some years ago, an added feature was the installation of a mosaic mural that had been saved from the old San Tomas School. Unfortunately the mosaic underwent some damage and recently, Christina Yaconelli a Los Gatos artist, was employed by the city to restore the mosaic, using many of the artwork’s original tiles.

In addition to restoring the tiles, Christina had the job of replacing the rotted wood behind the mosaic, but only needed to use ten new tiles in the mosaic. The new tiles are the result of shopping in antique stores and junk shops for tiles and old porcelain plates.

Creating original mosaics is Christina’s specialty and she hopes to complete the project in the next few weeks.

Yellow Cottage Mosaics works with Livermore residents, Eagle Scouts and the Mormon Church on Granada Native Gardens. They covered the garden's concrete tables with mosaic artwork. This native-Californian landscaping project, started in 2003, was recently completed and dedicated to the community. Read article.
